Azora Co-op’s Veg Box Scheme

1. How This Works

We sell pre-packed and tasty, fresh organic fruit, vegetables & bread from our community farm on Edentrillick Hill in Hillsborough.

When you sign up for a veg, fruit or bread subscription (On their own eggs or bread are collect only for now unless you order a lot!) The veg boxes will be delivered weekly or fortnightly depending on your preference. (or you can collect) The content of your order will vary seasonally giving you a fresh variety of different flavours, nutrients, textures and colours throughout the year.

You can also go to your own account page and cancel or suspend an active subscription, reactivate, resubscribe, pay for a renewal order, change the payment method, change address at anytime you wish.

When you subscribe you can also choose to have a range of other products added to your order each week or fortnight, and you can change it as you go by contacting us and we will amend your subscription accordingly.


2. Choose Delivery or to Collection

We deliver for free within the Lisburn, Hillsborough, Dromore, Dromara, Moira, Banbridge and other regions around Co. Down. Please contact us (detail below) to check your delivery area.
Alternatively, you can collect your delicious veg box subscription at Azora Co-operative, 5 Edentrillick Hill, Hillsborough BT26 6PQ (Contact Us if you need directions).

If you place your order by the 25th June (Friday) at 4pm, it will be ready for collection or will be delivered the following week.

Delivery & Collection from Azora are: Wednesday or Thursday

What if I’m going on holiday?2019-03-12T17:34:26+00:00

If you are going on holiday you can pause your order online a couple of working days before your delivery day or by phone or email to your veg driver by 5pm two working days before delivery. If you are pausing your order online, sign in to your account then choose “pause”.

What does organic mean?2019-03-12T17:16:10+00:00

The Department for Agriculture and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) says: ‘Organic food is the product of a farming system which avoids the use of man-made fertilisers, pesticides; growth regulators and livestock feed additives. Irradiation and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or products produced from or by GMOs are generally prohibited by organic legislation.

Organic agriculture is a systems approach to production that is working towards environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production. Instead, the agricultural systems rely on crop rotation, animal and plant manures, some hand weeding and biological pest control’.

We see organic as going beyond this dry definition – it’s about working with nature rather than against it, ensuring the way we grow and operate is sustainable in every way.

Is there an order deadline?2020-09-06T20:34:18+01:00

You can place a subscription at any time. However, we process payments on a Saturday fro 4pm so that we can plan our veg boxes for the following week. This means that all subscriptions after our payment processing period will push your subscription into the next delivery cycle.

This means that the deadline for new orders due the following week is on Friday at 4pm.

So new subscriptions on a Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will be processed on Friday. Your first delivery will then be the following week. (We plan to make this easier to understands as we go along!)

Is organic agriculture better for the environment?2019-03-12T21:27:57+00:00

Almost certainly the answer is yes.

Organic farming:

  • promotes biodiversity in the soil, the fields, and in the hedgerows
  • uses less energy per kg of food produced – organic famers don’t use synthetic nitrogen fertiliser that uses huge amounts of fossil fuels to manufacture
  • avoids pollution from pesticides & fertilisers
  • carbon sequestration removes CO2 from the atmosphere and accumulates it as increased levels of organic matter in the soil
  • doesn’t use GM genetically modified crops

It’s often said that organic farming uses more land to produce the same amount of food and therefore increases pressure to clear forest for agriculture. In simplistic terms this is true in developed countries with highly mechanised monoculture cropping systems. It’s NOT TRUE of developing countries where complex, integrated organic farming systems using local knowledge and inputs can be many times more productive than monocultures dependent on imported chemical inputs.

Within the developed world simple calculations take no account of energy used to make nitrogen. If this energy had to be produced sustainably, for instance from biofuels, organic farming would often be more productive.

Yes. We grow our own organic produce from organic seeds, propagated on organic compost, and grown in pesticide free organic soil. So we do everything we can to ensure you can be confident in what you get from us is fully organic.

We also source some of our products from trusted partners and growers who are equally assiduous in their efforts to be completely organic.

This is of utmost importance to us.

Is all your packaging re-usable and recyclable?2019-03-12T20:44:23+00:00

We always try to minimise packaging, use re-usable boxes, and only use bags and punnets where necessary to maintain moisture (eg. greens) or protect the product. Like everyone, we can always do better. If you have any suggestion for how we can improve in this regard, please let us know!

How do I pay for my order?2019-03-12T21:33:50+00:00

You will be prompted to provide your payment information when you checkout. This card will then be used to pay for all subscriptions that you place both now and in the future.

For your first subscription, payment is taken on a Thursday and each Thursday before your next delivery. We’ll send you a receipt by email when any payment is taken.

If you haven’t set up your payment information yet, or you want to change your payment card, please sign in to your account and click on ‘Payment methods’.

How do I know my order has been confirmed?2019-03-12T20:04:15+00:00

When you place your order you will get several emails from us to confirm your order in detail and to give you login details for your account. We may also try to call you to confirm anything we are unsure about on your order such as where to leave it if you are not in when we call.

Each week of your delivery you will get an email to confirm when you will get it.

Can I choose what comes in my fruit & veg box?2019-03-12T21:11:54+00:00

We’d love to be able to say yes, but unfortunately no for several very good reasons.

To make sure we are growing the right fruit and veg at the right time we have to plan months in advance. And with multiple customer orders and deliveries each week we have limited time to put our boxes together to ensure they arrive with you in the best possible condition.

You can add a note when checking out on any particular hates or dietary requirements and we will do our best to make sure your order is appropriate. Or you can contact us and we can place a note on your account for you.

Am I tied into a contract?2019-03-12T19:56:06+00:00

In general, no. Our veg boxes are recurring on a weekly and fortnightly basis and you can pause/suspend or cancel your subscription at any time.

The only exception to this is if we create a product subscription for a fixed period e.g. “a fortnightly coffee bean subscription for six months paid in advance”. It will be clear on the product page, basket, and checkout page. It will also be outlined on any emails you get from us and on your account page.
